Children these days don’t seem to spend enough time outdoors. Did you know that Children Should Be Outside for 4-6 Hours Every Day — says 1000 Hours Outside. 4 to 7 minutes is the average amount of time per day that children spend doing an unstructured outdoor play. Unfortunately, they do spend 7.5 hours in front of screens. You see them staring into screens as early as age 2 or 3!
Just seeing the above numbers makes us think. Doctors from the very beginning of the screen introduction have been warning us that children shouldn’t spend too much time on iPads, cell phones, TVs, or anything similar. It can be suitable for a while, especially if they’re old enough to learn how to use the technology properly. Still, it can have detrimental effects on the development of their motor skills and ability to socialize.
Letting your child explore nature is incredibly important for their development and creativity! Exploring nature helps children to understand and appreciate the world around them. It allows them to develop their physical abilities, build their confidence and self-esteem, and learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Nature exploration also encourages creativity by providing a stimulating environment and providing children with a greater understanding and appreciation of the environment. It helps children to understand the importance of conservation and sustainability and teaches them to respect the natural world.
Nature offers many benefits to kids, such as providing opportunities for physical activity, increasing exposure to vitamin D from the sun, reducing stress, and providing a connection to the natural world.
Kids who engage in outdoor activities get more exercise, which can help reduce obesity and improve overall physical health. Spending time outdoors can also boost mental health, with research showing that being in nature can reduce stress, improve concentration, and increase self-esteem. Additionally, nature provides a unique learning environment for children, with plenty of opportunities to explore, observe, and understand the natural world. Finally, time spent in nature can help foster a sense of connection to the environment; something that is essential for us all.
Studies have shown that even spending a few minutes a day in nature can have benefits for your children. A little outdoor time every day will help nurture their creativity, as well as their focus, something that can come in handy for homework and school projects. Plus, connecting with nature is good for the body and the mind. So if your kid wants to walk to school instead of riding the bus, don’t let his eagerness to get started on the most important part—the learning—slip away.
The world our children live in is full of technology and it has the possibility of being a distraction from nature. It’s easy to convince kids that everything they need, they can get from an app or buy at a store, but that isn’t always true. When you give kids opportunities to explore nature on their own, you are opening them up to learning about how the world works and helping them become more self-sufficient.
