Since my eldest has been going to school, every year at Halloween, we make some treats and bring them to her class for all the kids. For the past 2 years, it’s been the same thing and she’s looking forward to making it again this year. Now that E is also going to the same school, I needed to think of another treat idea so that they can each bring their own item to share with their classmates.
Here are some ideas that I came across that I think would be great things to bring to a class or for a treat if hosting a Halloween-inspired party. One thing to note is that different schools have different rules for what they allow in the school so before you bring it, check with the school first. Worst-case scenario, always great for after school or a friendly get-together.
Rice Krispies-based treats.
Rice Krispies-based treats are always great – each to make, great for bonding, and available all year around. Here are some of my favorite choices in this area.
1. Krispie Monsters
K and I have been doing this for her school every year. We go to the local bulk food store and pick up some varied color molding wafers and different sizes of candy eyes. She loves to design her own monsters. Super easy. If you were looking for some help on how to make them, check out One Little Project’s Post.
Another variation of this is Franken-Krispies.
Or the ghostly-Krispies.
And as the ghostly Krispies shows, add in a candy stick to minimize the stickiness 😊
2. Pumpkins
This involves some food coloring but can create some sensory enjoyment for the kids. You can use a variety of candies or treats for the stem and leaves and you can also get super creative and jazz it up by adding features to make it a jack-o-lantern! To read up more, check out Cincy Shopper’s directions
3. Spidey Krispies
From Olive You Whole comes this super cute idea for Rice Krispies treat and one that requires the least going out to get extra ingredients, most households tend to have marshmallows and chocolate chips in abundance. Check out the directions here.
Marshmallow Monsters
Have some extra marshmallows left from the summer campfire smore days? Here’s a super easy idea from The Decorated Cookie and it only requires large-sized marshmallows and food coloring pens that you can probably get at the local bulk food/baking store. The stick is completely optional and there is no limit to how you design the face of the marshmallow. For a tutorial on how to make the zombie marshmallows, check out the video here – it’s pretty easy!
Wanted a little more artistry and to up the game? Consider these marshmallow monsters. The first time I used this idea was actually for K’s 5th birthday and I used marshmallows to make marshmallow pops but this idea could totally work for Halloween as well. Drop one to two into a cello bag and you’re good to go. Check out Working Mom’s Magic for how she did it!
P.S. The toothpick trick is a really good idea!

Witchy Surprise
Saw this idea from It’s Always Autumn and completely loved the surprise nature of it. It’s like a bite-sized pinata! Pick up your favorite candy and put it into a cone and seal it up with a cookie. Yum!
Healthy Treats
If you are looking for something that is a little healthier, here are some of my favorite ideas
Clementine/Mandarin Jack-o-lanterns
Ok this one may be a complete cheat but I love how easy and healthy it is! Simply use a sharpie pen and draw on any face – instant jack-o-lantern. Great for kids to be involved in too!
Tip: You could also borrow the same idea for cheese strings or fruit cups!
Grapenstein
Another cute idea from Director Jewels that would work for class or home. Easy to make and definitely healthier than candies. You can also vary it up with other colored grapes or even berries and make a monstrous delight!
Ghostly Strawberries
This idea is likely to be very familiar to kids and you’re not likely to get a fight on your hands to eat it. A Taste of Home shares the method of how to make it and it’s super easy. All you need is some melting chocolate and some mini chocolate chips. In that particular recipe, almond extract is used and if nut allergies are a concern, you can leave it out. Also for Halloween, kick it up a notch by heading to your bulk food or crafting/baking shop and picking up some different color candy melts or molding wafers and you can create all sorts of ghostly goodness.
Apple Monster Bites
This idea from Wi-Il Kids may be a little more work but is a super fun idea and very healthy. There are so many variations of what you can do for this. Instead of sunflower seeds, you can use marshmallows or other colored apples and for those with nut allergies, use cream cheese or nut-free butter.
May your Halloween be fang-tastic with the kids going batty over these treats!
